Dreaming of Denver
“It is a dream come true,” Andrea Denver says of his modeling career and life in America. The super hot, Italian born model has appeared in fashion spreads representing global powerhouse brands such as Hugo Boss, Ralph Lauren and Brooks Brothers. He has also appeared in videos alongside superstars Jennifer Lopez and Taylor Swift.
Andrea frequently shows off his handsome face, great body and sense of humor with his over 1.1 million followers on Instagram. He is our 2018 Influencer to Watch. I met Andrea on a rooftop in Queens, NY during a recent photo shoot on a windy fall day for Cool America magazine.
Q: Tell me about your name, Denver.
A: I was a big fan of the Denver Nuggets, so instead of calling myself with my own surname I called myself Denver. When I started modeling, there was already stuff online with Denver. So I kept it.
Q: You’re a die hard Nuggets fan?
A: Yeah, I was watching them last night. Tomorrow I’m going to the Barclay’s Center, Monday Madison Square Gardens. I hope they’re going to do better than what they’re doing now, because they suck.
Q: How did you get into modeling?
A: I got discovered in LA in a supermarket when I was 16 years old while on vacation with my parents. [It wasn’t until after] I finished university that I moved to the States, got scouted by Wilhelmina, Miami and I decided to give [modeling] a chance. I got a working visa in 2014 and started modeling full-time, and here we are.
Q: What’s it like being Italian and living in America?
A: It’s been pretty cool. I’m really grateful. It wasn’t a big adjust because I have family in America [and] so I’ve been coming my entire life. I also appreciate a lot more my own country and I love to go back.
Q: Who are your favorite designers?
A: Tough question. I could say, Balmain. I really like Saint Laurent for shoes. I love Dolce & Gabana for everything that is tailored and casual jackets, Gucci for t-shirts, Tom Ford for sunglasses.
Q: You have 1.1 million Instagram followers. Is there some form of celebrity that comes with being an Influencer?
A: For sure, [it] has a few advantages. Sometimes people see you in a different way. But I always try to be myself and never see myself like [a] star. To be honest with you, I’ve met so many people and I’m grateful for that, but a lot of people wanted to meet me just because of that. I want people [to] appreciate me for for the person that I am and for what I put on the table.
Q: How did you grow your Instagram to so many followers?
A: I did a Jennifer Lopez video, [then a] Taylor Swift video. I woke up one morning and Madonna posted a picture of me, [then] Versace. I know a bunch of other big influencers, so we help each other, taking pictures together, posting.
Q: You have an amazing body. Do you follow a special diet?
A: I don’t. I try to balance. If I have a big meal [or] some sweets, I try to be careful for the day after.
Q: What’s your favorite food?
A: My favorite food is 100% sure is pizza. I got Americanized and I love cheeseburgers as well! But, I will still pick pizza over everything.
Q: What’s your workout routine like?
A: I work out 4, max 5 times a week. I don’t do much cardio, I do a lot of lifting. I love [to] relax in the sauna. I think it’s also really helpful for your body, to keep you lean.
Q: I heard somewhere you love reading. What are you reading now?
A: Because it’s coming out in the movie next month, I just started to read again Murder on the Orient Express. I’m a big fan of crime books and movies. I love Poirot, Sherlock Holmes, [and] Maigret.
Q: What advice do you have for younger models?
A: Be positive all the time. You’re going to find difficulty in the start. It’s a tough reality, but always be positive.
