The Musical World of Dylan Conrique
Written by Vaughn Stewart
Dylan Conrique is willing to take big risks to reach her goals in music, and with her dynamic voice and lyrics that speak to her generation, those risks are definitely coming true.
Dylan, how did you get into singing?
I started singing when I was very young. I loved entertaining my family and we set up a small area where I would perform for them. When I was about nine, I started taking singing lessons and was part of a singing group. We did small live events and I just loved being on stage. My parents would take me to restaurants with karaoke so I could sing in front of people and that helped me gain confidence. At about age 11 we moved to Los Angeles so I could pursue singing professionally!
“Nothing is like singing in front of a live audience.”
How were you discovered by KYN Entertainment?
I was discovered through Instagram! A representative from KYN had emailed my mom to set up a meeting. At the time my mom was getting a lot of emails so she didn’t think much of it and didn’t exactly know who the person was. Another rep I had worked with in the past then reached out to my mom and said ‘hey, this gal from KYN reached out to us to get to you and they are legit.’ My mom then set up a meeting with KYN and the rest is history.
What do you like more, singing in the studio or to a live audience?
I love singing in the studio because you can do as many takes as you want to get it perfect, but nothing is like singing in front of a live audience. The energy you get from the audience makes the experience so much more exciting. They make me want to perform my best and give them everything I have. I can’t wait to start touring with all my new music. Hearing a crowd singing my songs back to me will be the best feeling.
What singers are you currently listening to?
I listen to a wide variety of genres. But some of my favorites are Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Dua Lipa, Rascal Flatts, Kane Brown, and Tate McRae.
What female singer would you like to do a duet with?
I would love to sing with Selena Gomez, I’ve always looked up to her. Maybe even Kehlani or Julia Michaels, I love their voices and their songwriting.
What male singer would you like to do a duet with?
I would love to sing with Justin Bieber or Rascal Flatts, maybe Thomas Rhett, definitely Justin Bieber.
On another note, how has the Pandemic affected your life?
It has been rough. Not being able to see family and friends has been the hardest part for me. I’ve adjusted to zoom writing sessions; meetings and I’ve learned how to do some engineering on my computer for recording music. It has been an experience but I’ll be happy when life goes back to normal, whenever that may be.
“I love trying new things, even if they’re weird or scary at first.”
What do you think you’ve learned during this time?
I have learned that family is always a priority. Not being able to see grandparents who are older and more vulnerable was scary. The ‘what if’s’ are terrifying. Enjoy every minute, love your family and friends.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I like being outdoors, riding quads, wakeboarding, snowboarding, and hanging out with my friends. Any type of an activity really.
What’s something you like to do with friends?
Me and a couple of friends have been going to this really cool trampoline park that has a bunch of obstacles! It’s a great way for us to get all of our energy out. I also love watching movies with family and friends.
What’s something you love to do alone?
I normally watch TV, work on my mental health, write music ideas down, and play video games. I’ve started to like my alone time more this year, and using it to relax or better myself.
How would you describe your fashion style?
I’ve been wearing a lot of neutral colors recently. Comfort is also important for me so I’m either wearing baggy jeans or sweatpants most days.
On the red carpet?
On red carpets, I love to go full out and add a little edge too. I also like to add a little tomboy style to it and surprise people.
Any favorite designers?
I don’t pay too much attention to designers yet. But I’ve been exploring new styles in my recent music videos and shoots. In an upcoming video, I wore a lot of Paloma Wool and I loved all of those pieces. I’m also still trying to figure out my style, but my go to right now is a baggier pant and cute crop top.
We are called Cool America. What do you find cool about America?
I think what’s cool about America is that we have a lot of big, beautiful cities. But just an hour drive away from them and you could end up in the country!
What do you find cool about yourself?
I think what’s cool about me is that I’m always down to take risks. I love trying new things, even if they’re weird or scary at first. This year I picked up snowboarding and roller skating, which was definitely a risk at first, but now I really like doing both!
